Short answer: a good request names the purpose, the place or event, the dates, your role and your level, and says one thing about what you hope for. These fictional templates show how.
The dancers are fictional. Events come from our events calendar; check the organizer’s page for current dates and details.
The details to include
- Purpose. Weekly practice, a class, a festival workshop, marathon registration or a visit.
- Place and dates. City, event name and days.
- Role. Leader, follower or double role.
- Level and experience, in plain words.
- Optional: height, style and embrace preferences, languages.
- Not needed publicly: addresses, payment details, phone numbers.
Before and after
Before: “Looking for a tango partner.”
After (fictional):
Follower, intermediate, looking for a leader for the workshops at Sheffield Tango Festival. Happy to meet for a practice in London beforehand.
Weekly practice
(Fictional) Leader, advanced beginner, looking for a follower to practice with on Wednesday evenings in Istanbul. One hour, mostly walking and turns from class. I can book the room.
A class partner
(Fictional) Follower, beginner, starting a beginners’ course at Activistas del Tango in Paris. Looking for a leader who would like to take it together. I will check with the school how partners are handled; please do too.
Festival workshop
(Fictional) Double role, intermediate, looking for a partner for the workshops at Canary Islands Tango Festival. Happy to alternate roles by class. Please reply before registration closes.
Marathon registration
(Fictional) Leader, intermediate, looking for a follower to register together for Porto Tango Marathon. I will read the organizer’s rules first, and we would agree refunds before we register.
Visiting a city
(Fictional) Follower, advanced, visiting Lyon for the Lyon Tango Festival. Looking for a leader for one práctica and perhaps a milonga. Happy to meet somewhere public first.
A polite follow-up
If nobody replies, wait a few days and repost with a clearer detail rather than repeating yourself. If someone says no, thank them.
