Short answer: share your dates early, look for the local community and the events during your stay, introduce yourself clearly, and treat a dance partner, a ride and a room as separate arrangements.
Share your destination and dates
People can only plan with you if they know when you arrive. On El Compas you can add your trip, search around your destination and introduce yourself before you land. Your profile keeps your home city.
Find local communities
Look for the city’s own groups, schools and organizers. Ask how newcomers usually find out what is on.
Check current events
Look at the events calendar for dates that overlap with your stay, then check the organizer’s page for current details. Posting a request on El Compas is not a registration.
Introduce yourself clearly
(Fictional example) Follower, advanced, visiting Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for the Canary Islands Tango Festival. Looking for a leader for one workshop and a práctica. I arrive the day before it starts. Happy to meet somewhere public first.
Plan a first meeting
Meet somewhere public and keep the first plan short, such as a coffee or one class. Keep your address and payment details private.
Rides and rooms are separate
A dance partner, a shared ride and a shared room are different arrangements. Settle each one on its own, and see rideshare and accommodation.
Trip checklist
- Dates and city confirmed
- Event or class chosen, and registration checked with the organizer
- Role and level written down
- One first-meeting plan
- Ride and room discussed separately
Share your trip on El Compas
Create a profile, add your trip and say what you are looking for. What others see depends on the visibility settings each dancer chooses.
